Solomon Benatar

Solly Benatar, MBChB, DSc (Med), FRCP, FRS SA is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Founding Director of the University of Cape Town Bioethics Centre. He was Head of Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Chief Physician at Groote Schuur Hospital from 1980-1999.
 
He has been a visiting Professor at the Joint Centre for Bioethics every year since 2000, and was appointed Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto (1/3 FTE) in 2008. He currently serves on the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Standing Committee on Ethics.
 
His academic interests and publications have ranged from respiratory medicine, academic freedom, bioethics and the humanities in medicine, to human rights, health care systems, health economics and global health.
