MalariaEngage - Fighting Malaria in Africa Goes Democratic via Internet

Friday April 25th is World Malaria Day.  You can help by visiting www.MalariaEngage.org

Malaria is one of the planet's deadliest diseases, responsible for over one million deaths per year. 3,000 children will die from malaria today.

The McLaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health invites you to join the fight against malaria by making a small donation to support malaria research in the developing world. www.MalariaEngage.org is a new website that aims to empower researchers in the developing world to find solutions to their countries' own problems.

For example, Dr Massaga, a researcher in Tanzania, is leading a research project that aims to increase Intermittent Preventive Treatment among pregnant women. Dr Hamisi Malebo is establishing large-scale production of plants and shrubs known to repel mosquitos. Dr Emmanuel Makundi is investigating how to improve collaboration between traditional healers and health workers to address malaria in rural communities.  These African researchers, and others like them, are leading the effort to eradicate malaria. They need your help.

At www.MalariaEngage.org people can sign-up and contribute to the fight against malaria by making a donation of $10 or more to an initial choice of seven malaria research projects led by African scientists. The site features a discussion area where supporters can interact with researchers and each other, obtain news and photos of both funded and proposed projects, view a running tally of money raised, and read stories from individuals personally affected by malaria.  Please make a donation and get engaged today!
